The Story of Sugandhive
Every great journey begins with a simple question.
For us, that journey started during the holy month of Shravan. Like countless families across India, we would gather every morning and evening for prayers. As friends, visiting temples and performing daily puja was more than a ritual—it was a part of our lives, our faith, and our connection with something greater than ourselves.
Every day, we lit dhoop and incense during our prayers without giving it much thought. After all, it was something we had seen our parents and grandparents do for years.
But one day, a simple observation changed everything.
While preparing for puja, we noticed that the dhoop we were using felt unusually soft and rubbery. It didn’t feel natural. A question came to our minds:
“If this is something we burn every single day inside our homes, what exactly is it made of?”
Curiosity turned into research.
What we discovered shocked us.
Many products available in the market contained synthetic fragrances, chemical binders, artificial fillers, and other ingredients that release harmful substances when burned. The very products people used to create a pure and sacred atmosphere were often far from natural.
That realization stayed with us.
We asked ourselves:
“Why should something used in prayer contain ingredients that we wouldn’t want around our families?”
The answer wasn’t easy, but it inspired a mission.
We are fortunate to belong to Ambaji, Gujarat—home to the revered Maa Ambe Temple, one of the most sacred spiritual destinations in the country. Every day, thousands of devotees offer flowers to Maa Ambe as a symbol of faith, gratitude, and devotion.
Those flowers carried a story.
Instead of letting this divine offering go to waste, we saw an opportunity to give it a new life. Inspired by nature and guided by devotion, we began researching ways to transform temple flowers into natural incense products that were both meaningful and mindful.
Days turned into months of learning, experimenting, and refining.
There were failures, challenges, and countless trials. But with every step, our purpose became stronger: to create incense products that felt as pure as the prayers they accompanied.
And with the blessings of Maa Ambe, Sugandhive was born.
